Becoming a senior photographer was a conscious decision. I had to decide whether I wanted to work with people or shoot still life and landscapes.  I made the decision to photograph people. Then I had to decide what type of people. I chose to focus on seniors because they want creativity. Senior photography means working with energetic clients who want great photos to share with friends.

Creative Senior Portrait Photographer

As a senior portrait photographer I get to make classic portraits. I also get to make more creative portraits. High school seniors want something unique and different. Satisfying the desires of my clients while also meeting my own creative needs is a win-win!

Senior Pictures

I considered doing child photography. After all, I have children myself and have some amazing shots of them. But, children are more challenging and they do not take direction well. I would rather work with somebody who can stay in one place when necessary, LOL. I can focus on individuals with senior pictures. Working with one person at a time allows a more personal experience. If I were a family photographer I would primarily be working with groups.  I do better working one on one with somebody.

Fashion photography

Seniors are interested in fashion. This means I get to indulge in a little fashion photography. I get some fashion photography through my membership with the PSNWA. The great thing about being a senior portrait photographer is the chance to put my PSNWA experiences to work for you!

These are some of the reasons that I am a senior portrait photographer. The short version is that I get to take cool senior pictures and work with energetic and outgoing people. If you are the kind of person who is looking for creative and unique senior pictures then maybe we can work together.

This is part 5 of a 5 part series on how to choose a senior photographer in Northwest Arkansas (NWA).  This series is meant to provide you with questions to ask about senior photography before hiring someone.  Your senior photographer will actually like being asked most of these questions before booking you for senior pictures. Asking questions shows your interest in the process.  It also means your senior photography sessions will go more smoothly and your senior portraits will look better!

I have both. We will review them when you book your session.  This is the time when we can cover all the small details about your session and ensure you are getting what you need.

Quality of Work

I have won several competitions in the PSNWA (Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas).  I also placed first in the fine art category at MAPSYM (Mid-America Photography Symposium) in 2013.  I was recognized as one of the best photographers of 2013 by pixoto.com.

Strawberry Flambe placed first in the fine art category at MAPSYM in 2013. This type of creativity is what I bring to Senior pictures.

Style

My style is primarily fashion/glamour. Lifestyle and photojournalistic are part of the model program.  The SumPics Seniors model program gives you the opportunity for a complete NWA Senior Pictures package.  During the course of the model program we will use each of these styles.

Choosing a senior picture photographer – Part 4 – Service in Senior Photography Sessions

Senior Photography Sessions

In a senior photography session the environment should add to the scene. What will you do when bad weather threatens?

For this article I’m going to refer to service during the actual senior photography session.  Service should extend from the first time you interact with your photographer until you have graduated and even beyond.  For this post we will focus on only during the session.

Time in senior photography session

How much time do you have to get all the senior pictures you want?  It’s important that the photographer is providing enough time to get what you need from the session.  You also don’t want to go too long at one time.  It can be exhausting to be in front of the camera for a long time.

Senior Photography Sessions with Friends and Family

Who can I bring to my session? Is it OK if I bring my best friend? Can my boyfriend come and watch the session? My little sister wants to join me, would that be alright? There are any number of people who might join you for your session. Remember that these are YOUR senior pictures.  I recommend that you either do a separate session to include other people, or at least have them present for only part of the session.

Senior Photography Sessions and bad weather

Outdoor senior photography sessions are very popular. If it starts to rain or some other type of bad weather occurs  -what happens to your session? Most photographers will be happy to reschedule if nature won’t cooperate, but it’s best to know before it happens.

Concept shoot? What’s that? – Senior Model Program – Northwest Arkansas

From the march madness concept shoot at the PSNWA studios in Springdale. It’s tea time for Alice and the Mad Hatter followed by a visit to the asylum with straight jackets and wild make-up.

You may have been looking through my Senior Model program page and wondered: what is a concept shoot?  Here’s the answer!

So what is a concept shoot?

At SumPics photography a concept shoot is a session based on a theme.  A concept shoot is about artistically communicating that theme in a way that not only showcases the model, but also tells a story.  The concept shoots are NOT your everyday senior picture.

Concept Shoot examples

Here are some examples:

  • Vintage/pin-up – Get the classic look from the 40’s and 50’s.
  • Fairy Tales – From Disney princesses to the Brothers Grimm we can bring your favorite characters to life!
  • Dancer in motion – Imagine a still photograph that really captures motion and conveys the grace and energy of dance.
  • Asylum – Have you ever felt like you are in the crazy house and want to show this in a photo?  This edgy concept shoot allows you to go beyond the norm.
